Who am I?
Ever since I was little, I liked to build things and help others. This stayed confined to just Legos and toys until the eighth grade, where I got to enroll in a class called “Introduction to Engineering Design”. The teacher here was instrumental in making me love engineering, and by the end of eighth grade I was all about engineering and other STEM related topics. This pushed me to attend Wheaton high school, specifically under the engineering magnet program. In Wheaton, the course setup was unique, because I could take engineering classes and they wouldn’t stop me from accelerating in math as far as my skills could take me. The engineering classes were also under a banner called “Project Lead the Way” (PLTW), which encouraged leadership and cooperation with peers, as well as focusing the courses on hands-on projects as opposed to the standard lecture-homework-test style. During a lot of these projects, nobody wanted to take the lead and get things coordinated, so I usually ended up taking charge. All of these factors filled me with a desire to be an engineer, as well as equipping me with the analytical thinking, leadership skills, and tendency to learn I would need to take on the rest of my academic career, as well as other life challenges. I hope that throughout the rest of my degree and CPPL experience, I will continue to learn and grow, primarily with practical applications through helping my community, working with my peers, and furthering my career.
