Practicum Experience and Reflection
What was my Practicum Experience? My practicum was taking part in a class called CPSS 240. This class consists of two major parts, both of which are crucial to the full experience. The first part saw us mentoring students at the College Park Academy, where we taught them about robotics and used Lego EV3 kits to create a robot that could accomplish a challenge. We started by teaching them about the concept of robotics in the first place, then we taught them how to build with the EV3 kits in order to do an objective, then we taught them how to create some basic code to use the robot to accomplish that objective. All of that culminated in the Grand Challenge at the end of the semester, where the student built and coded a robot that woud solve a grand challenge decided by them.
The second part of the class was where we learned about various aspects of STEM education. We discussed topics on a large scale like various types of capital in a community and the stakeholders in engineering projects, but we also talked about projects on a smaller scale like what makes students engage with a class, and what aspects of online education work and what aspects fail. |
